About Therapy

About Img 1Get ready to feel seen and heard.

Working together, I’ll always seek to know you better.

I’ll listen very carefully and make lots of direct eye contact.

This might be a first for you, as many people are not used to someone listening so intently.

Some describe it as “weird,” and that’s okay. Most things are a little weird at first.

Let’s get acquainted…

In our first three sessions, we’ll get a sense of what working together will be like.

Even after those three sessions, it might take some time and conversation for you to really trust me and feel comfortable. That’s okay and totally normal.

What’s different about therapy is we will talk about these things. There won’t be awkward “elephants in the room”; they’ll be out in the open.

1369310480The therapeutic relationship is different than a friendship.

We might chat at times (we’re human in a space together), but we’re not just chatting.

This relationship is about you. And because it’s about you, almost all the attention will be on you.

You’re the expert on your life, so I need to hear from you.

That might feel strange at first, but it usually lessens over time.

As I get to know you…

And this will take some time… I’ll notice more and more about you. You’ll have feelings about that.

All kinds of feelings come up in the room during sessions. We’ll discuss them all – even the hard ones.

In our discussions, I’ll see your lightbulb moments, how you think about something differently after saying it out loud, and how you change your relationship to your thoughts and feelings.

This is what we mean by “doing the work.”

But it’s what you have to do to heal and live your best life.

Sometimes, coming to session will feel like too much work, and you’ll want to cancel or reschedule. This is a great topic to discuss.

Other times, you’ll feel like you don’t have anything to talk about because things are going so well. Sessions don’t have to be about all the terrible things in life. They can be about joy, exploration, and curiosity.

I’m glad you’re here.

You’ve taken a brave first step toward a more fulfilling life.

We can do this… together.

Give me a call, and we’ll start by scheduling your free consultation: (917) 408-3899.

About Me

About AliciaI’ve always been fascinated by people.

It really took off with my first psychology class in high school.

I felt particularly misunderstood back then.

Learning about the human mind and behavior seemed like a good way to learn about myself.

I have experience in different areas of mental health.

After I finished my bachelor’s degree, I worked at an inpatient treatment center for eating disorders and a day program for the severe and persistently mentally ill.

While in graduate school, I worked at a psychiatric hospital in Tampa. When I graduated, I spent a short time in medication-assisted treatment for low-income pregnant and postpartum women.

My time in New York City taught me the most. There, I worked at a detox and outpatient substance use and mental health agency in Chelsea.

I’m always learning more about therapy.

I completed the two-year post-graduate Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program through the Contemporary Freudian Society.

This year, I plan to enroll in the Infant Observation Program through the International Psychotherapy Institute. It focuses on early child development, primary relationships, primitive anxieties and defenses, and how to apply these things to clinical techniques.

Finally, I’m looking to further my psychoanalytic training through the Florida Psychoanalytic Center based in Coral Gables.

Outside of the office…

I like to keep myself hydrated, so I’m usually drinking flavored water in a knockoff Stanley cup.

You’ll definitely see pictures of my golden doodle, “Pickles,” in the background. When he’s a good boy, I have him in the office with me. You may see him curled up in his bed by the window or keeping a watchful eye on my neighbors.
